Acquisitions

Building an academic library's collection is a cooperative process involving staff, faculty, and students. To request that the Library add an item to its collection, complete an Acquisition Request Form. Your recommendation will be given careful consideration. You will receive a written response to your request within about two weeks of submitting it. Please note that collection development decisions are not arbitrary, but follow the provisions of a written Collection Management Policy.

Circulation

One of the Library's primary services is the circulation of books and other materials. See the Library's Circulation Policies for more information.

Copiers

The Library provides access to one public photocopy machine, located on the Main Floor adjacent to the computers. Copies are ten cents each.

Document Delivery Request

A document delivery request encompasses two different services: Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and Document Delivery. ILL enables you to borrow books and other items at no cost from thousands of libraries worldwide. Document Delivery allows you to obtain photocopies of documents (articles, book chapters, etc.) from these same institutions. While some libraries are willing to deliver requested copies free of charge, others are not. The Vick Library will only charge you the amount imposed by the copying library, if any, without exceeding the maximum cost you specify. To request an item from either of these services, complete a Document Delivery Request form. A patron can also request a book through the MOBIUS consortium. The delivery of the MOBIUS material takes two to three business days.

Microfiche/Microfilm Printing

The Library's microfiche/microfilm reader/printer is located on the Third Floor. Copies are ten cents per page.

Reference/Information Services

The Library's staff provides a variety of services. Reference questions may be submitted in person at the Circulation/Information Desk or by telephone at (417) 268-6075. Service is provided with the goal of training the patron to become an independent researcher over time.

Web Access

Conduct research on the Internet, the online catalog, electronic resources for finding books and articles, and Bible software.
